Buy a registered domain name

hi,

I have been thinking about starting a guitar-related web directory. I would like to call it unplugged.net (or .com) but now it seems that the domain name is already registered...

It has been registered by network solutions but there is no site on it. They seem to offer a service to place a bid to buy the domain name. I was wondering if any of you have experience with this kind of stuff.

I really think that it would be a good name for a guitar directory, a name that visitors will remember.

yeah,

i know, it is not entirely logical as there would be electric guitar resources too. But I can't really think of another name that has not been registered already...

Naw... I think it's a great domain name if you can get it... I'm a musician, and don't necessarily associate "unplugged" with accoustic... unplugged generally refers to no pedal effects, even if you're "plugged in" to an amp.

There are several definitions, and that is indeed one of them. Unplugged means that the instruments sound as you would play them without any electronical enhancements, wich in fact means that a clean electrical guitar could be seen as unplugged too.

The thing is that a lot of guitar players use that term and therefore i think it is something they will remember, even if it is nog entirely accurate

Sorry to hear the domain name is unavailable. As long as the owner of the domain name isn't asking an arm and a leg it's usually pretty easy to transfer ownership. You will probably have to fax the application that NS will be asking for. It's been a while since I've done it with them so the process may have changed.

I've worked in a few commercial recording studios and the term "unplugged" means acoustic. Unfortunately real music by real musicians are a dying breed that it may mean something else today.

Defintion: unplugged
describes musicians performing without electric instruments and without amplification.

I personally think it's a great name but I wouldn't think it would attract too many electric guitarist to the site just by the name alone. I seem to remember a TV show called MTV Unplugged. It was about musical groups playing acoustic guitars and drums. But then again what does yahoo and google stand for? Search engine???

Well,

that's my concern too. I like the name too, but if I"ll have to pay for the domain name it would be a bit of a risk...

I'll think about it, I guess I'll try to find another name

Check the whois of unplugged.com
I don't think a company that is called unplugged would be willing to sell the name at a reasonably price.

Check your pm

I have dealt with websites like this before. They are usually just domain brokers who buy up the decent urls to sell on, but usually they will come with a hefty price tag.

Best of luck.
