CMS frustrations

About two months ago I gave php-nuke a shot, but it was just too much for me. I found myself deactiviting almost all of the default features, and ended up just getting rid of it altogether.

I ended up finding a small, yet very functional php news system that works great... except for the fact that there's little archiving abilities worked into it.

So now I try mambo, and while it beats the pants off of php-nuke, i still have the same trouble. Just too much stuff... "Power in simplicity" is a nice idea, but it's just not as simple as I need. I'm looking for something extremely basic... bare bones...

So I guess what I'm asking is, if anybody knows of a simple/basic content management system that pretty much has nothing to it besides basic article posting/editing and some decent archiving features. no module features, advanced member management features, mind-reading features, toasters, etc...

I fear that I'm gonna have to go about making one myself, but damn if time isn't valueble enough as it is.

painperdu is liked by many
Your best bet is to make one yourself, especially if you don't need all the bloat of a multi-user CMS.

I can warmly recommend TextPattern for that. I love it, it's very easy to use and works. There's also a support forum for it.

I'd recommend Wordpress. Although it is meant for blogging it works amazingly well as a CMS due to it's simplicity. Plus it is very SEO friendly.
