Compatibility issues with IE

I'm using tables to display my logo and footer.
The site looks great on firefox and chrome, but every version of Internet Explorer I've checked (*6,7,8*) messes the tables and my upper black stripe.

I've uploaded a test page so you could see it live:

How can I fix this?

You could try some kind of CSS reset, there are a lot of them, and try changing it a little...
Another variant is using a Javascript that loads a IE-friendly page if the browser is Internet Explorer.
By the way great design, I like it!

First of all I'd fix the 29 Errors and 21 warnings the W3C HTML Validator found. There are 13 CSS errors according to the W3C CSS validator also. Eliminating these as the cause is the first step.

I'd also start by adding the marbled background of the top bar as a background image in CSS for the table then go from there. Search engines don't read images (yet) so you may want to rethink using images as links.

[SOLVED]

Thanks, I finally got the time to learn how to do it the right way, no more tables.
Thanks for taking the time to answer beginners' questions, I really appreciate it.
