This. I also use a grid system when I'm laying out the site in Photoshop. It helps me keep everything proportional and lets me see what's above the fold.
On bigger projects I'll use Komodo Edit instead of Notepad++ (interesting note: I found Komodo Edit because I was using Ubuntu at the time and it was one of the few IDEs that worked excellently cross-platform). Komodo Edit just feels better. I used to use Eclipse but it felt too sluggish.
I started creating Drupal sites recently and it requires editing a ton of different files to get the result I need. That might change my approach, but so far Komodo Edit works great.
Does anyone use any CSS frameworks? I like some of the ideas (variables, clearer syntax for complicated selectors, etc.), but a lot of them just look too fat for development applications.
