Blog Blog Blog (sung to tune of Log by Blam-o!)

I'm a little slow catching up to the blogging design community (I've used Diaryland, default template; Livejournal, default template; MovableType, default template), and I'm wondering what's the basic elements that go into a regular blog (seeing as how Greymatter has a text only default template XD). I seem to see similar things show up every other blog or so (the about me, links, quizes, whatnot on the sidebar). If I get a clue to what usually pops up in one, maybe I can make my own template.

Have you thought about modifying the MovableType template? I completely reworked it to fit my site design, and it worked like a charm. It's very powerful, and once the backend is taken care of, you'll save a LOT of time in long run.
