Streaming Videos

Hi there,

I am thinking to run a website which allows member of the site to upload videos in avi, mpg and .mov formats. I am not sure that how i can convert those videos to .flv format so that they can be played in flash player on my "View My Videos" Section of site.

Please note that I have developed an Admin panel where I can see and download the uploaded videos and then manually convert them to the desired format using my Desktop based Format Conversion software. What I want is to know if there is a way that I don't need to download the videos from the site and convert them on the server using my Admin Panel (created in php/mysql)?

Are there any such conversion utilities available (Free or Paid) ...that help me to just simply run a shell command from my php script and do the conversion to .flv format from .mov, .avi, .wmv and .mpg formats?

Please help me, Any help is highly appreciated. This is really a critical issue for me and i will be highly obliged if somebody could suggest me something better around the problem.

Sorry for the late reply on this. I am trying to get caught up. Blaze Media Pro contains a feature to convert AVI, MPEG, and WMV video to Flash (SWF and FLV).

there is already has been made exactly what you are going to make.
its vidflash.com - well, its something more that you are planning to do, there is also online converting service exept upload and hosting of users videos.
you can register there and see how it works If you dont know.
geovid developers closed trial downloading for console version of video to flash converter (server side version on command line mode) which does exactly what you are looking for but its still aviable by a request to geo support team. i can help you only with a link. I`ve been requireing about it already...

Send a message via MSN to Vern
Well, so far I'm doing pretty well using Youtube and all but if you have any other suggestions on placing streaming videos online that would be cool too.
