Fix the site for every browser

Hello everyone,

As my first message here, I'd like to ask, what to do when my site looks good with FireFox, but when you look at it with Internet Explorer, it's suddenly messed up. How should I change it?

Thank you.

In the future you should design your pages with both (preferrably: all) browsers in mind.

Care to share the url and I'll see if I can address some of the problems?

chicgeek I beg to differ

I find the best way is to design with the most standards compatible browser widely available (let's say Firefox for arguements sake). This way you are implementing your (X)HTML and CSS in the correct way.

If you have problems with IE as a result, fix it with conditional commenting. This way, when bugs are fixed in later releases of not so "standards" browsers, your code doesn't break.

It depends who your audience is. I design for a current university audience who uses 60% FF and 40% IE. Regardless, I use Dreamweaver and test for those two. Firefox because it's just moral, and IE because it's my job. Everything is W3C compliant.

I think we're saying almost the same thing is different ways.

Design for Firefox then fix for Explorer, works for me

The only browser I ignore is IE Mac, I ignore it because it's not supported by Microsoft anymore and Apple users have plenty of other browsers to use.

Exactly what I do. Works for me too, frustrating though when there's something tiny that's solid to fix
