Question Picture galery which updates itself automatically

I need a picture gallery which i can install to my server and points the gallery to a folder which has pictures in it and it creates/updates itself automatically.

So it will be like, the script will check the folder with pictures and make a gallery with comments, share options etc. but that folder gets more pictures all the time and the galery needs to update itself based on the pictures in that folder.

Can you guys give me an idea about what to do and how to do it?

From my understanding you're looking at creating a database driven website, which displays the latest images that you/others have uploaded(via an upload form).

On the images you wish for people to be able to comment and share easily.

The code I would use is PHP and MySQL. The PHP on the page will query the MYSQL database for images.

If you're new to PHP/MySQL I would suggest http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gallery-plugin/ for WP. Fiddle with this to understand how it works.

If you're brave and motivated: https://phpacademy.org/learn, learn yourself.

You summarized it well.
There is no way i can code this myself.

I am looking for a script, software, template or something that can do this job for my website.

I dont know if db is actually required. Because the script will just check one folder for any updates and if there are new images it will add them to gallery automatically. So I will have a dynamic gallery without me doing anything.

I don't know anything about automating scripts without any manual interaction.

But if you're looking for a "dynamic gallery", you would need a dynamic script that calls the latest images in the folder.

PHP Code:
$id = (int) mysql_real_escape_string($_GET['id']);

$result mysql_query("SELECT image FROM imagesdatabase WHERE id='$id' ORDER BY date DESC");
    if(
$row mysql_fetch_array($result))
    {

$imagesource =  mysql_real_escape_string($row['image']);

echo
"<img src='foldername/$imagesource' alt=''/>
   }
The script above would pull out the latest images.(Given each upload records the date of upload).

How do you plan to upload the images to the folder you have in mind?

Maybe one of these links will be helpful:
http://davidwalsh.name/generate-photo-gallery
http://www.hotscripts.com/category/scripts/php/scripts-programs/image-galleries/

You could also try to do a Google search:

Doesnt have share nor comment options. Also i dont think this gallery is auto-dynamic.

I dont use sql currently to save the images. Its just a swf which saves pictures to a specific folder. But i want those pictures to be put in a gallery.

If im gonna go through the mysql then i need to change everything. I would assume the images in the folder have the last modification date which i can see in ftp.

Just bunch of picture galleries but which one is what i am looking for? I can just go through them one by one. This is why I am writing on this forum to see if anybody already know any.

This one looks good and easy enough. Will definitely try. Thx.

You should be able to get all of the files in a directory using php with:

PHP Code:
readdir()
then just iterate through the array and output the image as needed. Maybe using it with lightbox or something.

I intended to mention this type of script yesterday but did not since it doesn't have those features. This style also does not have cations or titles for SEO purposes. They do work quite well for what they do.

Attached is a very good version also but this version doesnt put the subfolders in the gallery.

I would be grateful if somebody can help me on how to add comments and share options those these scripts preferably this one http://sye.dk/sfpg/

I downloaded it from the source. If I have time to play over the weekend I will take a quick peek.

From memory, the last time I played with these I seem to recall that you need a database to store the captions and comments and then to tie them all together the file name needs to be part of the database..........

and then you are altering the whole script and killing its easy use factor.

If db gets involved, then Im sure it will be pretty hard for me because im not good at coding.

so you think there is no way to put the comments and share without a db in these scripts?

One way could be using Facebook's comment box:
http://developers.facebook.com/docs/...gins/comments/

With share you could use:

From my own experience, you can only share those comments with facebook.

I took a look at this script for you. It does work as stated on my local machine under a default xampp install.

You can add a photo description for each file but that only shows when you click the information tab. It does show picture EXIF data when it is present. You have to create a .txt file for each and every image manually.

The negatives are that it creates bmp images for display and sending to the browser. This is going to be a heavy load on a server. May get you into trouble with your host and consume a lot of bandwidth.

The navigation menu contains a back link to the creator's site and may cause confusion because of the placement. Removal may be an option with payment.

I prefer to optimize my web images so I would not use it for that reason alone.

What exactly are you trying to do? On what scale?

edit: It may only create the bmp images the first time around. It may not be the bandwidth pig I thought it was. Let me assimilate my coffee and I will play some more.
