1. cms, content management system... it will help you manage the 300 pages of content.

2. I liked using etomite. But there are tons of content management systems out there... and it really depends on what you need as to what you will want to use. Some people even use basic blog software as a cms (wordpress for example)

it allows you to plug in your content into a theme and manage it without the use of code... using a wysiwyg editor and being able to edit the theme in one file... all of this online from the domain, meaning you could edit it anywhere in the world without having to write code and ftp, etc.

www.etomite.org is the one I used most when I used CMS scripts.
Great support forum too.

I am making a movie review site. Currently it is done in html. I am thinking that I should use a CMS like Joomla but I am clueless as to how to begin. I know what I want (member login, photo slideshows, review submission forms, possibly a forum later, etc.). BUT feel very overwhelmed. What exactly is Joomla!? Is it like a blog? Is it the complete site or just like phpadmin? Realistically could an average computer user like me with moderate html knowledge manage Joomla by myself? How hard is it to set up? Forgive all the questions but I rather start my site off on the right foot now then have to redo it later. Please help.

Mambo/Joomla is the easiest thing on the planet to set up. And it's even easier to learn how to admin it. I currently have it on 3 sites I own. It's based around "community" sites where members are encouraged to join up, so I think it would work pretty good for you.

I use Joomla/Mambo for pretty much everything now. I've been nothing but pleased with it. The development community is really aggressive with upgrades and new functions and features.

One of the best features is that it allows for front end content changes which makes it easy to teach clients to update content for themselves without havingf to wade through the admin back end.

It also allows you to assign differing templates to seperate pages, multi-level access and permissions for users, search engine friendly urls, several very good WYSIWYG pluigins, a Dreamweaver plugin for template creation.....

I'd recommend Drupal. Personally I don't like the Joomla Admin Interface, it's pretty clumsy.
