Hi,

Nice to know that you finally sensed the requirement of RWD . My sugegstions would be to :

Responsive Design is pure HTML and CSS. You create simple rules in CSS that change style based on the screen-size of the user’s device.

There are tons of tutorials about UI and RWD. Also, I advise you to learn about tools as well.

Thanks,

You could use a framework which is very responsive - such as Twitter Bootstrap or Gumby.

RWD really is going to be the divider in competitive niches of the web I believe, mobile sites that just use RWD are so much better, good luck finding some good tuts on it

I prefer twitterboot strap over gimby, and viewers are more used to twitter boot strap so they subconsciously recognize the RWD it produces

Bootstrap has predefined CSS classes to achieve fluid responsive web designs.

Manually you can use the media function in CSS.

Basically you will need a strong command over HTML5/CSS3.

There are many wordpress themes you can pick and decide to have a responsive website for you. As you already said you know HTML, then it will be even more easier for you to do easy customization.

Thanks,

Few steps you have to follow in a strict manner:
1: Responsive layout-Describe and format the design will be acceptable in different sizes of devices.
2: Rather creating static designs, make Rapid HTML and CSS prototype in the browser.
3: Work on creating Fireworks, Photoshops for creating assests rather full layout.
4: Ease in Navigation by useful and consistent design throughout the single page.
5: High Pixel density images with javascipt
6: Table alignment with fixed edge , width and sides
7. testing time and cost after alignment of above aspects in the page. It should navigate in a proper time.

In order to create responsive design you should have knowledge of CSS media queries If you don't then just pick dummy free responsive site and learn through codings.

Before saying "Bootstrap" is the best you should take a look at

http://responsive.vermilion.com/compare.php

and if this sites content does not mean anything at all to you, you should start learning HTML/CSS first.

Personally I prefer ZURB Foundation because (at least in my eyes) it is a little bit easier to handle (and it is better, too) than Bootstrap.

Example:

[removed link drop]

Done with ZURB Foundation and fully responsive.

Good knowledge of HTML/CSS is a must, at least in my opinion...

Just curious why you say it's "easier" and "better".

Well, I am working with Foundation since 2010 and for me it is easier to write e.g.

Code:
.large-12.medium-12.columns
and press CTRL+X (I am using Notepad++ and the Emmet plugin) instead of

Code:
.col-lg-12.col-md-4
I used Bootstrap 2 for one project but it was, at least for me, hard to remember all their classes.

And it easier for me to tweak the CSS of Foundation.

Oh, just compare Bootstrap with the latest Foundation version... then you might find out yourself ;-)

Not really interested in changing over as I've no problem with Boostrap or Cherry themes. I was just curious as I've never heard of Foundation. Good reply though.

I love Foundation, especially version 5.3 ... and I really do not like Bootstrap. I can remember when you wanted to make your site responsive you had to load some more CSS or something.

Personal experience :-)
