Problem with Page Properties in Dreamweaver

Hi guys,

i am a Dreamweaver newbie. I have propably changed something with dreamweaver's properties or preferences and now when i click on page properties i only get the options for Appearance, Tracing image and Title Encoding.Links and heading are missing, as well as some properties in Appearance like page pane and repeat of background image.

In Edit > Preferences >Accessibility i have unticked the option <use CSS instead of HTML tags> ( i dont know if it is supposed to be ticked). But when i have it ticked it all the options are displayed in the page properties but no changes are made if i change something:

For example when i try to change the font color,no changes are made to my html and in the coding section i get:
<span class="style1"></span>

instead of :
<font color="#0000FF">xxxx</font>

How can i have all the page properties displayed and working correctly?
Any help would be much appreciated

It's using CSS, which better than direct colour commands in the font tag anyway... Any reason why you can't use CSS?

I understand that its using CSS but I should know how i can turn it back the way it was as well, rather than just having to use CSS because i dont know how to change between this and CSS.I am sure this is something basic for someone that knows Dreamweaver.

I am only just learning Dreamweaver now and in order to go through my tutorials i need to have it the way it was. As i said when i do these changes the way it is now, nothing happends to my html, no change in the background color, text color, background image etc. I assume there is some other way of doing this? I am just trying to learn the simple way first

I know dreamweaver, but I also have no reason to avoid CSS. Unfortunately I don't know where in the preferences/options it is.

If you have a standard knowledge of HTML already, then study CSS using DW as an aid. There is no reason to locally use <font color="#999999"> when you can use <p style="color: #999999;">.

If you're struggling with the HTML, I don't suggest jumping right into Dreamweaver - do some simple projects in notepad until you're comfortable enough. Dreamweaver is not a generator, it's a tool to utilize the understanding of the code that you already have.

That being said, I still don't know the answer to you question. I know there's an area in preferences to opt for <p> over <span> and the like... If anything it should be around there.

Thank you for your answer.

I know HTML,and i have been playing around with the preferences but i haven't had any luck yet.

Just a final question. Even if it is using CSS now, why doesn't anything change (text color, background etc ) when i change the page properties?
As you can see from my first post when i try to change the color i get
<span class="style1"></span and there is no change in the color
instead of getiing: <p style="color: #999999;"> as you wrote

Okay well I don't really know dreamweaver but I think it's just like any other web editor program.

Can you not manually remove the line that looks like this:

Code:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="site/style.css" />
and then just customize your site manually using colour tags or style tags, whatever you want.

But, I do recommend you learn CSS. At first I was reluctant to use it, but now that I do use it it has saved me A LOT of time and made my code loko a hell of a lot nice

Good luck getting this to work

Mark
