Best way to build a website
I have been in internet marketing for a while now but have never made my own website...always bought them. Anyway, I was wondering how I should go about doing it. I still want it to look good.

I can highly commend open source CMS. I have been using joomla for a while and it makes site design and maintenance very easy. Additionally there are lots of free componenets available improving the functionality etc..

"Notepad".....
Ouch! He said he is new to this. I couldn't imagine trying to hack out a page using notepad. Yes it would work, but probobly wouldn't look anywhere near one he could create with an editor such as dreamweaver.
Technically, you could drag and drop a bunch of pictures, text, and hyperlinks into a MS Word Document then just "Save as web page" under "File", and voila.... Webpage. Like I said, very basic but it would work. Not appropriate for a business however.

Right it would work, but what a mess LOL From SEO standpoint I doubt it would every rank well!
Dreamweaver is the only way to go! I think I would rather use a free copy of NVU than notepad.

dreamweaver only if you are planning to do something NOONE will ever see.
on the bright side of things, if you plan to do something, that you'll market, and ur sure about wanting to do it urself, first u need to be familiar with photoshop, second u need to learn html/css and/or Flash. But i tend to de-rank purely flash based sites.
Good luck
PS. littlefella knows what he's talking about, only its notepad++ but you have to learn html and css first.

Notepad for coding, and Photoshop for image editing.

Your job is half done.
And then you need to add content and get visitors.
You are done -- Just kepp the counting machine running..

I like to use an editor. Drag and drop makes for an easier experience. I can slap html code fragments in later using note pad.
Like I said, I couldn't picture using a text editor to build an entire page. But then again, I don't consider myself very advanced at it either.

I myself like dreamweaver. There is no blodded code. I make my living doing SEO services for clients. So many time I see websites that just are not built right.
If you want to rank well in the search engines you really do have to know how to build your own website.

i write all codes with my self in text and save it as filename.htm or filename.asp, *.js, *.vb and etc. ..
and i know many editors and wyswyg to make a page static or dynamic, but i prefer it
because i can't put my self in the others frames.

There is no shortcut really to make good websites. Comes with skills as you learn them and experience. Start with the HTML and photoshop.

My advice is to learn HTML, some JavaScript and CSS. Then keep on learning more languages. Every web editing/creator program (including Dreamweaver) has it's problems and the only way to truly make sure your website looks and functions the way you want it to is to know and apply these languages by hand. They're not really that hard to learn.
