I don't even think it's possible to change a computer's resolution via code, but then again what gives you the right to start changing people's computer settings when they go onto your site?

The best way to make it so that it'll be viewable by everyone that views it is :-

a) Used a fixed width of no more than 760 pixels
or
b) Create a fluid layout which will stretch and contract with the screen/window size. Use % instead of pixels for your measurments.

There is no possible way of changing a persons resolution UNLESS you have their permission to do so.

What you could do is a use a Javascript to change the actual window size; but if your talking about your site is too big for their monitor, then I would suggest, just as DB said, to make it smaller and make it so the person with an 800x600 screen resolution could see it just fine.

I agree, using a layout of 600x800 ensures that "most" will not have to scroll across to see the entire site. The site will however not fill the whole page at higher resolutions, but by today's standards this is acceptable, and many sites I visit are designed around that 600x800 standard.

If you are going to design it using a 600x800 layout, it may be feasable to slap that <center> tag into it so it isn't left justified. It in my opinion, looks better.
