Feedback PLZ
For a new site I am making I want to use a Java applet to display panorama's with the applet provided with a stitching tool I am using.
I would like to know if any of you experience any difficulties displaying the panorama, and or have suggestions for other simular (freeware) applets.
Look here http://www.villas-in-bali.com/
It will be a multi lingual php thingie
(p.s. together with shopping service and satelite internet you can have a nice life on the beach here for around 100k )

While the plug-in downloads I thought I'd mention www.Zoomify.com who have a lot of plug-ins for panaramas and more.
When I last looked Zoomify also have a fairly good set of automatic scripts that choose the best plug-in for each user, so you are not always limited to one plug-in, increasing the chances they won't have to download a new one. (of course they might not any more).

Don't be so lazy, Jim...
No serious, I need a nice thingie to display panorama's, without any problems for the common user, I will not take the risk if people have even the slightest problem with this one.
I've tested with 2 VM's and they worked fine.
Please look and see if you have any problems...

Well I'm having no lukc installing the Java plug-in, but I'm using Mozfirebird 0.61+ --- not even on version 1 yet.
OK the plug-in seems to have installed (even though it appeard to crash and never complete the installation).
It's working on internet Explorer 6, windowsXPpro, and looking pretty cool, or hot even!

If there's anyway around making your users install plug-ins, you should look into it. I'd never install a plug-in for a site, unless it was absolutely necessary i saw the content.

FYI
Its not a plugin, its a java applet. As for as I know more then 95% has the ability to use applets, but there are many Java Virtual Machines around, each with their own quirks (I assume), so thats why I ask.

FYI the way Java Virtual Machine works or doesn't work with Windows is changing.
I have personally had much trouble getting any Java applets to run on web pages even when I used Internet Explorer, I usually really wanted to see the content so tried harder than the average visiter, but still failed.
We have to install a plug-in to have Java applets work in pages.
This made it work easier in Internet Explorer, so in a sense the situation has improved, and leveled out, as all browsers should have the same experience.
[Firebird is a very young browser with documented trouble installing Java applet plug-ins, but I assume they will sort it out soon!]
As Rick says, I would avoid plug-ins as they often have to be installed, which took me ages to do for your site, and several times the installer appeared to crash and I never thought it completed. (But it must have).
Consult the Principles thread in the Usability Forum to see under what conditions adding plug-ins is concidered a good idea.

I have only seen the one page for your site, you probably have addressed all the issues and provided alternatives to the applet, if so, good work!

You could try www.smoothmove.com which takes a panorama and allows you to move about inside it. Works great for panoramas of home interiors.

Smoothmove seems to have moved smoothly from the internet.
