Who are you really?
It is a gowing trend to speciallise in one or more area's of web design. This might be a good idea, and is based on the fact there there is so much involved in proffessional web design that you can't possibly do it all - or if you do, you probably aren't good enough at all of it because you've spread yourself too thin.
While the following article in " Web Designer for Designers" does not, in my opinion cover all the facets of web design, it does have many valid points and i recommend it.
http://www.wpdfd.com/editorial/wpd0303.htm#feature
My recent attempts to stop graphic designers calling themselves web designers is abstractly covered, but also the author covers the problem of non-skilled artists calling themselves graphic desingers.

because people use the name to guess what you can and can't do.
They care what you are called if you pretend to be something you're not.
You also project an image of yourself and your abilities and the first thing they have to go on is what you are called.

Yes that's another point I'm starting to think about, the answer is this...
I don't know they can't do it, for the same reason I don't know they can do it. That reason is all the wrongly named people removing/diluting/plluting the meaning and rep of those names.

Where I plan to make my money is in overall web design. No specifics, I am good at creating templetes and i know how to make a site. I know html and baisc php so I really don't specialize in anything, I can do graphics but I am not amazing. If I ever get a design request for something i feel i can't do with great sucess i wont do it, I will contract the work out. I am not the type of web designer who has to do everything, I am not afraid to use premade scripts while leaving the copyright, I only want people to use my services for stuff I know I can do.

Good for you on the money, I'm glad
well I'm confident then when I eventually "open up shop" that the money will start rolling my way too.
We have been brought up and educated to think of design as different things, I think, or at least from a different stand point.

Great, that's a similar service to waht I wan't to offer, apart from I'd much prefer to make my own scripts, or at least only use scripts I understand fully.
I don't know if you know how to Design how I concider 'properly', so I don't know if you take everything important into account, or indeed correctly work out what is and isn't important.
My view of design includes extra stages building up to and trailing after the creative and construction stages. As far as I can tell no-one else here shares this view, at least not explicitly anyway.

I don't just design, I put very much time in to the build up and the completion stages of a site. I feel I cover all the important areas, and consider all the not so important ares.

Good i'm glad, and I'm sure it works.
Later i'll outline all the stages of what I concider design, (seems like I should have done this before a lot of the topics I havs started!), then we'll compare.
