Web page and screen resolution...

Hello.

Do people still design webpages for 1024 X 768 resolution? Or has the standard moved up to 1152 X 864 or higher? Most of the people who visit my site, according to my stats, use 1024 X 768, and since my site contains a lot of .jpgs I designed it accordingly.

What are some of the ways web designers deal with screen resolution differences these days? Should I worry about the resolution issues with my site?

Thanks!

That does help a bit, thanks, but now I'm seeing that an increasing number of visitors use 1280 X 1024. How times change. They grow up so fast. Looks like I'll need some more fluidity to my site in the future... can PHP help with screen resolution and sizing? I know JavaScript can...

I design for 1024 X 768 now. I personally wouldn't up that yet, but ultimately it depends on your audience.

I agree with Laura if you have to pick a size. This is one of the reasons I like the challenge of fluid layouts. They can be a real pain to do well but if you get it done well, resolution becomes almost a null issue. Unfortunately, you can't abandon 1024x768 quite yet. 800 x 600, I have abandoned. (Even though my parents were still running that resolution until about a month ago.)

I would agree on the 1024x768. Most of my friends and school computers still use it. My grandmother uses 800 x 600 still. 1024 x 768 is a little hard on her eyes. She kind of likes things big :s

Just bought a computer with a 17" monitor and it came default with 1280 X 1024. I still design for 1024 x 768 though my preference is a fluid width that looks good in small (800px) to large screens.

I miss my 2560x1024 setup. But I don't think I could function and not be depressed without my laptop.

Kinda depends on your content to, I still do the 800/600 ,
also because the content still fits nicely within these limits.

I agree. I always choose based on the target audience of the site.
