Left Navigation bar/buttons: Is it still in vogue?

Hi,
Left navigation buttons/navigation bar has been used extensively by web masters. Recently, I am finding that left navigation is not adopted by several new designs. Is it still in vogue? Do you still use left navigation bar? If you use, how is it different from earlier days? thanks.

It does look like left nav is not "cool" anymore. Most of the newer site seem to be favoring top nav dropdowns. Personally, I think left or top is fine. Run with what works for the design. They are both locations of important real estate and places the eye (of westerners who read right to left ) naturally go to. My

For me no menu placement is out of style, so long as it works well for the site design and navigation.

It appears that top navigation bar is preferred now-a-days. I observed that the menu is usually dynamic (expands on mouse-over). Does all SEs (esp. Google, yahoo!, MSN Live, Altavista, and Ask) recognise the mouse-over dynamic menu buttons?

i like to put my navigation really large and in the center of the page. then shove all the content to the sides and make it really really small. makes for easier navigation

For a brief venture into seriousness
The better dynamic menus are all CSS, no javascript, and completely recognized and easily spider-able by the SE's, IMO.

Seriousness done... Greg, loved the Web 3.0!!! That was great!

IMO, designs now with left nav or right nav, any sidebars, just don't look any more professional, maybe if your sidebar is only for sub-links under a main-link then it should be alright. Main link should always be placed at the top or under a banner in a horizontal manner to look professional..... My worth.
