hmm... It seems like you are taking a long route for a simple problem. Let me explain how can it be done pretty easily. I assume that you can log into cPanel and create "Full Home Directory Backups".
Now, what you have to do is explained here:
1). Click on the "Backups" icon in your cPanel.
2). While on the "Backups" page, click on "Generate/Download a Full Backup". It'll take you to Full Backup page.
3). While you're on the "Full Backup" page, make sure that 'Home Directory" is selected as the
Backup Destination. Now click the "Generate Backup" button.
4). Wait one or two minute and refresh the "Full Backup" page. Now you should see the backup file link under
"Previous full backups saved in home directory:"
5). The file looks something like this:
backup-4.5.2007_19-31-47_demo.tar.gz . Just click on the file link to download your backup.
That's the simplest method to generate and download your backups, if you are a cPanel user.
