Red face newbie question about adding blog to website

I am working on my first website- an information site about childcare (I work as a nanny). Ive heard a lot about blogging but I am unsure how people can buy a domain and host making their entire site with blog included on the same domain and format. I mean-how does this work? I understand adding a blog that links to a blog server like blogger.com but dont understand otherwise.

Where could I buy a very simple template that I could also use for my blog so they match? Im lost!

Thanks in Advance.

I just transfered a blog from blogger dot com to my own website. There are a couple ways of accomplishing this.

There is an option when you setup your account on blogger dot com that asks if you want to host the blog on your own domain.

You can then choose which template you would like to use.

You need to upload the pages using FTP. There are pretty good directions on how to accomplish this portion of the process on blogger dot com.

If you are unsure on how to do this part call your hosting company and ask them to walk you through this.

The blog should now be on your website.

thanks- i will try blogger since they do allow adsense if im not mistaken. I have the book blogging for dummies and in that book it says that one blog is able to have advertisements so I spent an hour learning about hot to fully maximize their features just to discover they actually NO do not allow adsesne and the like.

Hi mcharvet,

Most good web hosts nowadays can install a blog script within a folder in
your domain. That's how people get their blogs in their domains. All it takes
is a trip to your web hosting account control panel and clicking a button
called "Install blog" for example. You will be asked where you want it installed.
You can choose to have the blog installed in a folder called "blog" for example.

And that's pretty much it. After clicking a button, you'll have your blog
in the "blog" folder of your domain.

You can then access an admin area, similar to the one you access at
Blogger.com to add, edit and manage your posts.

Templates will depend on what type of blog script you have. A popular
blog script used around the net is WordPress (http://www.wordpress.org).
With WordPress, there are thousands of templates available that you can
use for free.

Hope this makes things a bit clearer for you.

- Bina.
