Arrow Venting about W3C and Google :)

Hello everyone...

I'm just gonna vent about W3C and Google and using frames in web design.

Personally, I am not ashamed to say "I like frames." Frames are our friends. Frames allow you to have your Nav section not flicker everytime a user clicks a menu link.

Sorry, but Google (with their "one document...one page" ideology), and the
W3C for phasing out frames are just plain wrong! (period)

Look, I've been a software developer for going on 17 yrs. now. And there is a right way, and a wrong way to do things. It is wrong to refresh a part of the screen when you don't have to. It is inefficient! There's no point! Why you doing it?

Menus, backgrounds, etc. should not have to be refreshed just because a user wants to look at a different page on my site...it's just silly. Ergo use of the infamous "nav frame," and "content frame" is good! It avoid that ugly whole screen flicker

So I say STICK UP FOR YOUR FRAMES! Frames are people too! And when I'm elected president...there will be an iframe in every pot!

Thank you for your co-operation!

Adsense is totally frame dependent, so I guess Google is not totally against them ...
Your right about the flickering, definitely an advantage with frames. You could consider Ajax of course, but there are just as many javascript-haters as frame-haters...

I'd love to use AJAX in content pages, but then you still have the problem of the content being locked up in a separate asp, or some other server script.

I'd also like to use Flash more, but same thing...content is locked up and unviewable by search engines

I could expect search engines to not like Flash (and AJAX ) because it would take more work to parse and figure out what the content is. But the W3C? Just sad.

anywayz

The problem with frames comes from the fact that it's hard to bookmark things. I'll either bookmark the home page (which I might not want) or, if I manage to find the address for the exact page that I want, I won't get the whole page because I'll only get that frame.

I'll be honest, all the of the pros about frames make them look like a good idea.

But the reloading of elements that you've already seen doesn't really happen. Things are stored in your browser cache, so that doesn't really become an issue.

The main problem with frames is that sites who design with them just usually look like crap. They tend to just be very poorly put together. I'm not saying they're all like that, but most of the ones that I've seen are.

There's also just something weird about having part of the page load while another part just sits there.

Nah. Just put a bookmark on the page inside the frame.

I dunno. I've been a software developer for over 17years now, and I consider software that refreshes the whole program when it doesn't need to poorly designed.

I thought that part of this whole web 2.0 stuff was supposed to be about bringing web design closer to being more like software. eg. Ajax. lack of flickers.

If you bookmark the page you'll most likely get the home page, which doesn't help if I want to bookmark something else.
