Loading and Image Maps??
I want to make http://www.Classic63Lincoln.com load faster. If i make the hole nav text stuff one image, and use an image map, will it make it load faster? The client wants it an image, not text there. Will an image map work in most browsers?

Image maps will work, but why can't they just have text?

Generally combining several images into one large image will make the site load slower, if anything. The reason being that some browsers can download multiple images at the same time, increasing the page loading speed. Image maps will work in pretty much every browser, but your best bet for increasing page load times is to reduce the quality of the images if they're set at a very low compression right now.
I agree with the above post. If that font isn't super important, text is your friend.

Use a list instead of any image on that navigation, as you are not gaining anything using an image right now.

have you done all the optomization you can those buttons would work with a low color gif which might make it a smaller size.

It does take ages, make sure you optimise the images more because they need it and also make the text on the nav smaller and make it just text

1 meg PNGs can't be good...
Try using flash, or optimize it like how people said above (slice it up in photoshop, it takes like 5 minutes).

why are you using PNGs man, seems weird to me that ur wanting to optimise the site yet you use PNGs all the time. Whip them into GIFs man.

i know they are, but if you save for web optimised, you won't notice any difference i can assure u.
Also, it takes a matter of seconds to change, do a batch convert in PS or PSP and then go to your source code and do a find and replace ".png" with ".gif".

If you optimize a png it'll be the same size and quality, more or less, as a gif.
Also stick your JS and CSS into an external files and the file size should decrease.

depends on the image, PNG is best for most images, but gif is a lot better in extreme situations and JPG is a LOT better with big colour-blended images.
Of course JPG loses hard lines and makes them in to ugly square blocky things, you always have to fiddle with a coupld of images and all the settings in each file type to get optimum results.
