I have an Internet Explorer problem.

Sometimes when I close a window on Internet Explorer, instead of closing completely it goes to an "About Blank" screen, just a white screen that I can't exit out of, only minimize it. I have collected as many as 6 to 10 of these. This seems to be slowing down my computer terribly. The only way I have come up with to get rid of them is to restart my computer. Can anyone out there give me some ideas on how to fix this? It seems that my I.E. is corrupted. Should I download a new I.E.? Can I do that without losing any of my files? Should I do it from the net or from my windows xp disc? Is there some way to do it without charge?

Thank you for your help,
Hubert

I had exactly the same problem with IE and it used to drive me (and my computer) crazy. Never found out why this happened but did find foolproof solution to it: stopped using IE and switched to firefox. a million times better! It seems the more i steer away from anything microsoft the more my psycological health improves... should post this into health forums as well?

Thank you all for your time and your advice. I hadn't thought of another browser before this happened. A few others have mentioned FireFox and I think I will be using it more.
As for the virus/adware I use AOL (McAfee) security, so I think I am okay there.

I did a little searching, and I think its probably spyware/virus. I would do a search online and find a way to correct it manually. Antivirus doesn't always fix problems. Also, I would highly recommend firefox, its a great browser.

Use firefox as they said and use it as your default browser and download antivirus. IE is more prone to virus than Mozilla firefox in my own experience...

You could also try to re-install or repair IE. But.... Firefox RULZ!

I ran Virus/Spyware/Adware scan. Even if it doesn't fix it wouldn't it let you know that it is there? Even the Norton I used to use at least let me know it was there. When I ran MacAfee it didn't even tell me abou a problem.

Thanks,
Hubert
