A good way to do this is to find a picture of the color you want and use photoshop's color picker tool on it.
This might work for you: #D8BE35

You could do what Jazzee said, except have the palette set on web-safe colors. There are only so many, so you'll probably find it's the same as my suggestions above.

Does anyone still use only web safe colors? I am asking because I am curious. I don't use them.

Most people don't bother. At least when I look at source code for any big or hi-tech site, i see mixed colors like D4D8D0 and such.

I do occasionaly, but most of the time it is very hard to create the right effect with only web safe colours. Also with the issue of gamma etc. All colours, even if web safe will display differently on different monitors.

I use a color safe bleach in my laundry.
The only realistic "golds" I've ever seen, were always a gradient (more than one shade).

Here is a good progeam:
http://www.iconico.com/colorpic/
it's a nice hex value selector... and works well for adjusting stuff between images and coding... stays on top, and can grab hex values to your clipboard.

Iconico has an excellent screen calipers tool also that's free, you just select "register later" everytime you bring them up to use them.
