Apache

Hello and I have a question that may sound dumb but I have no idea so here goes. I have began following some online tutorials. I needed Apache. I am not sure why or what it is used for but I hear it a lot. Am I supposed to upload this to something or just install it on my computer, Apache I mean.

Feeling hopelessly lost.

I am actually supposed to be learning to reproduce a site I made months ago in DW or some such program as a learning experience for a course I am doing. Apache was being utilized in the tutorial.

Apache is webserver software that knows what to do with the code you have made in dreamweaver (HTML).

You can get free hosting and upload to an apache server OR you can download apache and install it on WINDOWS

If you'll want to run dynamic sites locally on your computer, you'll need WAMP.
Probably this page might also be useful.

WAMP stands for Windows (operating system) Apache (web server) MySQL (most popular database server for web applications) and PHP (programming language for web applications).

WAMP package is a must have swiss knife for dynamic web applications.

Thank you for the info. I don't even know WAMP is exist until your post. I am currently using Abyss Web Server for all web development testing. Looking forward to try WAMP. Your info is much appreciated.

You do not need to try anything new, while your usual software suits your needs

I wonder what the most popular of programs are with people who are members of this forum.. ?
Has there been a poll of sorts? Or is this a touchy subject..?

I just wondered as it would have been nice to have been introduced to the programs you all speak of a few years back. I am such a slooooowww learner and I get really mad at myself for not knowing more. I feel like I have been studying forever and should know much more than I do. Everyone else here seems to know what each other are talking about. I should know this stuff by now. I have been studying IT for 3 years and web design has been for 1 of these years.

Until you discover the beauty of .NET (asp.net, mssql...)

but most of people are affraid (or they hate MS so much) that they don't give a damn about .NET...

that's why :
apache - the most popular
mysql - the most popular
php - ...bla bla bla...

Personally I like the VB.NET and the beauty of asp.net

Hi Costin Trifan,

This is all really amazing information to have out here. Thanks for taking the time to stop by here and leave your wealth of much appreciated knowledge for us all to view.

I wish I had another couple of days in the week so I could take my time to look at it all. It is always such a rush..(exciting but you can only grab at things while your screaming past at 100 miles an hour!)
