Link clickthrough tracking?

I'm hoping to track site referrals from a banner ad that links to my site. Problem is, there's also a member directory on that site, so my WebTrends report doesn't specify from which point the referral originated.

I've considered changing the URL of the banner link and setting up a redirect that could be counted, but I'm guessing there's an easier way. Ideally it would show up in a WebTrends report.

Thank you.

You can have the link go to a URL like yoursite.com/tracking-url/ and have it set up to redirect to the exterior URL. No?

That's what I was thinking, but I'd be inferring banner click-throughs by the total traffic that enters the site at that page, right? I'd have no way of filtering visits from bots and accidentals.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the function of a tracking URL. Anyone have a tutorial?

You should be able to just see the unique page views for that page, no?
