What Would You Do?

A Partner of our company has been contracted to design a website for one of her clients and has found herself bogged down and not able to complete the project in an acceptable amount of time. So now she has hired me to finish the content implementation part of the site. It will probably take all day today and maybe a little of tomorrow to complete it, which is not really a big deal, however when she sent me the already designed files....... the design looks like crap!!! Seriously, it's horrible... it's all blocky and no feel or depth to it at all. That's where my dilema comes up... should I do the project that she's asking for... be apart of this horrible site and not say anything about the design. Or should I offer to help redo everything. The answer MIGHT be obvious, BUT she's a new web designer that is trying to get her feet in the door, and I don't see her as one of the types that accepts Constructive Critism well. What do ya'll suggest? :

It's her project. She is only paying you to plug in content. She will get credit for the site. She probably likes the design the way it is.

If I were you, I would just do what she is paying me for and keep my mouth shut.

Well, you said you don't see her as one of the types that accepts constructive critism well. We've all done some crappy designs before. Maybe she is doing exactly what the client wants. Maybe when she shows it to the client, they will let her know what they like and don't like about it and she can learn on her own.

Also get the job done and dusted (trying to meet a deadline you said) then you can think about hinting on the style later.

i agree with the forementioned comments. Let it be. Just do what she asked you to do, and later on, maybe give her some tips/advice. From my experience, thats the easiest way to do things without causing conflict.

I've been in the same position actually - the design was truely foul. But I did keep my mouth shut and did the job so that it could be delivered on time and within budget. It was then that I brought up the design concept of the site and found out that the other designer loathed it as well but the client loved it No accounting for taste  . I remember a client wanting me to put black text on a black background one - yep that showed up well!
