Business Site Questions...

Alright, I'm in the process of putting together a website for a friend of mine that owns a skate shop (boarding, bmxing, etc). Now I plan on creating the original site with CSS/HTML (keeping it simple), with plans to upgrade to PHP in the near future for SQL support. Would this be a good route to take? Or should I just jump right into the PHP? I would like to have an e-commerce store setup eventually with individual member log-ins, similar to any big name company like Dell, where members can put together a wish-list, get updated on new sales, items, etc. With everything out there, I guess my biggest question is, what language should I jump into to accomplish all this? Now the only bad part is his hosting company is through Yahoo! (not the greatest imo), and it doesn't accept .htaccess files as well as some others because it begins with a . I don't know if I'm making any sense, hopefully somebody will understand. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for takin' the time to read in advance

Why not trying to find a host that allows you to use the .htaccess file (or any other files starting with a . ) ?

PHP & MySQL is a good choice but so is ASP.NET, so I think it's up to you to choose the right way to go.
