Need info on free forum software

I am going to build game forum.
But I do not have any idea which free forum's software that I should use.
Any opinion and suggestion are welcome

I have not much knowledge about forum softwares.....but you may use following of them..
* metaForum
* bbPress
* Free BB
* GrimBB
* phpBB
* vBulletin
* wtcBB
I don't know which one is free..

vBulletin is not free.

For free solution, I'd suggest phpBB, CMS, and punbb.

I have installed the phpBB system on a page i am creating. It works smoothly and its fast, It has a HUGE community support forum. There are plenty of great mods out there for it. I am changing to vBulletin though, not because it doesnt work but because vBulletin is a more full program. its $85 for a year or something like that. but for a basic gaming forum phpBB will work for you great. the only hard part about that forum is the setup of new mods and installing them. you can use whats called "easyMod" to install a bunch of them but it doesnt work for all of them. if you have any questions go to the site or pm me.

I like mybb it is nearly an exact duplicate of vbulletin & its free. Well worth a look http://www.mybboard.net/

mybb looks good and yes it looks like vbulletin. Phpbb also great tools.

Set up two folders & test each, I recommend mybb solely for the reason it handles like vb & most admins & members of communities like using vb so its not to far from home.

Simple Machine Forum is my favorite, and imo the easiest to use. Several plugins, mods, and SEO additions to make life easy.

Not knocking free forums, but remember they are free. Hackers download them too. I had a free forum once and after a short time, the porn gods were posting on my site quicker than I could delete them. Now I use Vbulletin. Problem solved, headaches gone.

SMf has a very large mod database of mods that protect against bots, spam and porn posting. Yes it's not perfect, but nothing is.

I would like to recommend phpBB.

It is very easy to modify its look and "inoperate" into your current design/site layout. It has a very nice and easy to use control panel, where you can control each user, set forum permissions, ban, delete, upload, change colors etc etc etc. Also, many people are used to it, so it might be easy for the new user to post.

MyBB is clearly the best free forum, and MyBB has great security against spammers, bots, etc.

If anyone suggests another forum is better, please, ask them this:
Have you ever actually tried MyBB for at least 2-3 hours?
