What is the best free forum script out there?

Hi i'm looking to start up another new forum, i already have a vbull license but getting another one is too $$ for me atm so i was wondering what forum script could come close or even better than vbulletin that's free? Ease of use isn't really a problem but i wan't something flexible since the forum would be gambling related.

I have several forums using SMF and I am very happy with the free progam.

I had used both phpbb and smf and I prefer smf which is more secure. With phpbb, I got tons of spams and finally I got to shut down a forum.

I use to use Invision, but they turned greedy on us! Was awesome until they did so.

SMF (Simple Machines Forum) is fantastic. It originates from YaBB (yes, I'm an ol' timer) Perl forum. SMF is great, and like ryukenden said, "[it] is more secure."

Don't let phpBB fool you though. phpBB 3, the newest addition, is very reliable and secure, and includes so major updates to themes and the back-end which make it a good candidate once again.

I've used both phpBB and SMF in the past month, both of which I love. So I'm split.

I prefer SMF, but the new updated version doesn't work with a lot of current plugins, but I still use it.

phpBB all time and never got any single problem. Actually if you keep your board update then you will never face any problem.

Doh! I guess that's why there is a 'bb' in the name lol. But yes, it is very basic. Wow, lol. I'm sure it provides simplistic hoster's a very good choice though: low bandwidth usage!
