How to back up Joomla Data

I'm maintaining a news website using Joomla 1.5
I've installed different modules, components and plugins like forums, comments, article rating etc.

I want to create a backup from time to time of all these information. How can I do that?

Suppose I'm shifting my entire site from one web server to another server. How can I install the same data on the new Joomla in that new server.

If your host provides cPanel, there is a utility there to do it all.

If not, then there are several MySQL remote backup utilities available. A Google search will provide many. Some are free, others are not.

Since I have never had need for anything other than cPanel, I really can't recommend one. Maybe someone after me can help with that.

Yeah!! My host provides cpanel
I was thinking mayb joomla itself has something in it's control panel.
Last time I tried to back up my wordpress blog from my cpanle, I'd some difficulty reinstalling it again on another server. After I moved everything on the new server, it said wordpress is not configured properly. something to do with the relative addresses stored in the wordpress configuration file.
I could never solve it.

Paste your wordpress config file and we'll help you from there If anything you just need to change the database name and password, and host address which is your domain name.

Hi Steven!!
Thank you for your support. I'll try to explain about the wordpress blog in more detail. It started with a faulty css. The blog was being displayed without any css and with just the default styles. I can't also log in to the admin panel.

So I tried installing a new blog using the same database upon which it populated the table with new data using a different table suffix rather than using the existing data from the table. If I try to force same table suffix it gives an error msg asking me to use a different table suffix.

Now I've the back up of the whole wordpress installation which is not working properly and the sql database also. Can you please tell me how to use that database on a clean new installation. Or better if I can merge the posts in database to another existing wordpress blog of mine.

hi prabinpebam,

use the "Backups" icon on the main window interface of your hosting Cpanel for performing full backup of all files of your web site.
