Image transition

Hi all

I'm designing a site and want to have an image on each page which slowly changes like a slide show - similar to the pictures on this site - http://www.russellreynolds.com/home.asp

What is the easiest way to achieve this effect?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,

The effect you are looking at here is done with FLASH. Other approaches could be used, such as JavaScript and even .gif animations, for example. You just really need to know exactly what you want in order to decide how, exactly, you want to create the effect.

Probably FLASH is best, or maybe JavaScript, depending.

What, EXACTLY, are you looking to accomplish here?

My vote is Flash, as well. Though I wouldn't know where to start doing something like that in Java and since I do Flash for a living, I'm biased.

Yeah, FLASH will offer more options, though probably more expensive to develop.

Unless really on the "cheap" here, I'd recommend a FLASH .swf for sure.

Also bear in mind that a Flash Header and a Flash slideshow are two different beasts. The term really isn't interchangable. If all you want is a flash slide show, you can find them all over the place for free, just google 'free flash slideshow' though most of them will probably be for a myspace and the like, and of course, there will be limitations.

Now on the otherhand, if you are looking for a page header that has a slideshow integrated into it, then yes, as Sean said, it would be more expensive. Though not bank breaking. Something like that, I'd probably quote starting at $200, and because it's a page header, its also best to integrate the company name and logo and some messages and so on... You know, you 'do' have more option when you work with Flash. Second to that, you have more options when you don't settle for 'free' and you're buying a custom product.

I basically just want a photo on each page of my site which slowly changes through say about 10 different photos. Ideally randomly but doesn't have to be.

I think we've established that. But thanks for the insight Radnor!

There are a few options for you. You just have to choose which one is going to work best then go for it.
