ah so your not even using windows, well that explains it. though i didnt read a single reason why. except for the 'allows me to do things I can't in Windows' which is pretty confusing. (of course we dont need to get into an os war here or anywhere, personal choice is just that and theres no reason to belittle it) now, i will say, personally, and this is strinctly speaking from experience... i run the os, not the otherway around. i see alot of glitz on your desktop and the trans is not a selling point, ive had that option on my card for ages.

so back on topic... i can see your taskbar(s) REALLY eat up your desktop space. i wouldnt stand for that, lol, especially when im researching and have multiple browser windows in view. of course my res helps, oh i wont discount that as an important aspect of it, but, you know there are other things users can do to maximize the space they have. (limited as it may be) without changing their operating system.

I will design w/ a minimum view of 800x600 but develop the tables, css, divs in percentages that way any larger resolutions will just adjust accordingly.

I design for 800x600, mainly because 640x480 is too tiny, and I don't like complains from the 800x600 crew.

My resolution is at 1280x960 however, and I still think 800x600 sites look fine.
