<!-- around javascript still makes sense?

Does a <!-- around a javascript and within html <SCRIPT> tokens still make sense for a page that cannot be really used without stylesheets? In other terms, do the browsers that support css also support javascript in a way that they do skip the contents of any <script> token also when javascript is turned off?

The goal of this question is to type less when placing a script often on a page that has more features with scripts but can be used without scripts also.

These days I think you're reasonably safe to leave out the <!-- comments. But don't confuse JavaScript with CSS - they are two different beasts.

I suspect that most people who cannot see JavaScript have chosen not to, rather than it being a browser support issue.

Yes, they are different pairs of shoes. The logic in question is, what was historically first supported by a browser? The css or the javascript? If it's the javascript, a browser with css support has also javascript.

Correct, but the problem with that thinking is that some people choose not to view javascript. So just because their browser supports css, it still may not support javascript.

If they turn off JavaScript, will the browser then skip the part between teh script tags or act like not knowing the script tag?
