Personal Website

Hello all,

I'm looking to make a personal website, I have a blog at the moment but I find it quite restrictive layout-wise, so I'm going to make a site where I can put random things

I have a bit of html knowledge, but I'd rather use CSS (I wan't a sidebar of links and some other things that I hear are hard to do in html)

I'M NOT ASKING FOR SOMEONE TO BUILD IT FOR ME

But if anyone has useful tutorials / suggestions I'd really appreciate them.

Thanks!

I would suggest Lynda (dot) com for any tutorials you may need. Hands down the best online guides out there. Plus, the best part is they are all video tutorials, so you actually see the task done in front of you. It's really worth checking out!

thanks for the offer, I'd like to try my hand at it first, see if I can handle it. If I fail miserably however, I'll let you know

I had a 20 minute play with CSS last night, managed to set up a (very basic) external style sheet and create some different colour and size texts.

Tonight I'm gonna have a go at positioning images and stuff, although it seems quite simple from what I've seen

The tricky thing for me is figuring out how to make a page with header, footer, main bit and a sidebar, but I'm guessing it'll become easier with time

One question: Regarding text size, what is a pc? I set a font to 80 pc and it took up LOOOOADS of space..

pc = picas of text.

1pc = 12pt. But I will advise you to stick to pixels. This is all relative, which CSS loves

Also, regarding CSS position pleasedo research on the box model theory; you will then understand much much more regarding CSS development,
