Burned Out

Hey everyone i am just plained burned out. I am dying to get up and running on creating my new forum using phpBB. From what i have found i need to use XAMPP and MYSQL to create it offline... however i cannot figure out for the life of me how to create a new database and how to get started. Can someone tell me what programs i actually need to use PHPBB on my local host machine please.

Also i need some basic steps. I hope none of this is a repeat because i cannot find it anywhere in a straightforward fashion. I am using Vista and everything i can find is for linux. Thanks in advance again.

I tried getting PHP and SQL to work on my computer using apache but it just wouldn't work. Im pretty sure that is has something to do with Vista as it worked fine on my old XP machine.

I know you said offline.

I have never installed phpbb that way. It is an auto intall from any cPanel host, the database and all config files are creted in a browser based manner. All you need to do is take notes.

For your local XP machine you would need xampp properly istalled and then you would need to follow the directions in the readme or install file.

Need an inexpensive cPanel host? PM me.

I admit to not reading the vista part.

Maybe you should consider XP instead of the newest MS toy.

Sorry I could not resist saying that.

well trust me i prefer xp, i had a laptop with xp and when it broke and i returned it to alienware and asked for a new one since this is the third time it has broken and the one i am currently on was shipped back with vista, you can't buy a computer with xp on it now a days and i don't have the money to buy a copy of xp just because i lost it.

slient_thunder, you are probably exactly what your avatar says, "SLOW Webmaster".. greedy person.

Shinji, is everything working? Did the install go fine? If so, you just need to login to phpMyAdmin using the root login and password. Creating a database from there is easy.
