Btw at the bottom of the page on of each new page i create and on the left there is a navigation menu that leads the search engine back to the most important pages i have, is that fine to have one on the left and one at the bottom or would that be considered as to overdone..

you can have navigation at the left and bottom. most good site design does have a couple ways to get around the site.
you can link into your inner pages. often times it is easier to get links into your home page from sites such as directories, but sometimes it is a good call to try to get links into your inner pages if you think it would be easier. for example you can find someone with a site about one of your subtopics and ask them if they would mind linking into your article.
