I think it will only help your website if you just recently lunch it... but i dont think that it's effective seo technique anymore...
aside from dmoz of course.

Few general directories are of any value now - Yahoo!, DMOZ, BOTW, Business.com. work well. Local directories that follow a phone-book-like business method result in backlinks that persist, give traffic, and are of use for SEO purposes. Niche directories that are directly relevant to your subject matter will have links that persist in Google and other engines.
As to the rest I say "Forget them! They are a waste of time."

Directory submission is the part of off-page optimization for the website promotion and generate one way link of the site.

Well by submitting to directories you are gaining new links. The more the better. This helps with page rank, page strength, and in some cases even Serp's ( I recently started to notice that links from directories don't have the same value in serp's as they once did ).

Most have abandoned Directories as a way to engage in SEO.
You may get a little natural, organic traffic if the directory is well respected.. Like DMOZ.

The only problem with directories is most have been abandoned or have no PR ranking.
I find that pr 3 and 4 are pretty active and worth chasing!

I believe that an active directory, with articles and other content will be more SEO friendly. And give you more back links

Directory submitted links are calculated as a back link and you can get more hits from directory links. Do submit high PR directory for better result, and careful on submission guidelines of those directories.

There are a lot of niche directories that will help your site a lot. However, it's a lot harder to find general directories that help. You need to find directories that have well edited categories so the link back to your site is related.

The vast majority of directories are junk. At best they make no difference to SEO, at worst may be viewed by google as a paid link.
Google has stated that the directories that have benefit are ones where the editors are selective as to what sites they list and are actually are useful to people seeking information on the internet.
A fraction of a percent of the directories we see promoted at forums like this are of any benefit what so ever to anyone seeking to SEO site.
You may also notice that it is usually the owners of these junk directories that are often the ones extolling the value of directories for SEO.

Directory submission still helps though you have to wait long in order to get results. it usually takes two to three months before the administrator approves your site/URL. Directory submission is best option of better SERP cause it is find free plenty and every person can use it.

I would advise against directory submissions, other than dmoz and yahoo, and maybe a handful of quality, high authority business/niche ones.
There are much more quick and effective ways of building one way backlinks now.

It is about the quality of the directory you submit to and how relevant it is to your site.
Dmoz and yahoo is good one to start and it takes time to get index by them.
If the directory is not relevant much to your site. It does not help you in ranking much.
