Biz Directory doesn't allow you to charge users for adding to the directory?

http://www.netgids.com/cat-10.php > this is the deepest for the moment
I also have finished the admin for adding, deleting and editing categories and links. Still have to make the forms.
My server in belgium was out for a few weeks so i havent got much yet.
The paypal module is on its way.
Let me know what you think of the design :p

the $700 version does. also it is not hard to store an email address or other info and add a paypal button in one of the templates.
make sure you delete the admin erase type files after you upload the script to your server if you do not want your database erased

I have seen many people do it. it may require a small amount of coding, but not much.
if you put the paypal stuff in the header or footer part it would not require any skill at all. make sure you erase the database erase and category erase files if you use that biz directory script...there are other security issues beyond the original ones that were pointed out

I've never seen a directory script I truly wholly liked. The nearest was AeDirectory, but I didn't feel at all feel confident using it. There's a real serious need for a proper SEO/Admin friendly script. In the end, I've just paid out for the $700 biz directory script, but I would have really much preferred something else.

Yeah, i was thinking about the aedirectory myself. I'm kinda playing with the idea of making a directory.
The aedirectory seems extremely good and userfriendly, the only thing missing is the paypal integration.
Also, aedirectory is free while bizdirectory costs 700 bucks for each url. So, if you get a coder to implement paypal to aedirectory, or you do it yourself, it would be a terrible lot cheaper in the and and probably also in the beginning if you plan on having more than one directory.
How much do you think a coder would charge for adding paypal?? I'm thinking of looking in to it myself, but i am not an experienced coder

You need to be able to compile AeDirectory yourself, though, which basically craps on us Windows users (ie, the majority of people). And even when I got a webhost to actually compile the script and set it up properly, the script itself wouldn't run at all because of a coding error.
Now, all that's forigvable - but before they wiped it all off, the AeDirectory forums was basically just a lot of people asking for help and not receiving any answerer whatsoever. Now where's the point in having a piece of software if the developers aren't even going to support it?
Of course, they appear to want to look like their supporting it to some extent now - but in my eyes it's just a little too late. I don't care how "free" someone thinks a piece of software is - I cannot run a business on it if the developers will not even provide basic support.
Anyway, apparently there's a new biz-directory script coming out over the next few days - Javier e-mailed me after the purchase asking if I'd want to hold-off installing the main script for the new one. Not sure what changes he's implemented, but can hopefully be only for the better.

Yeah you're right, i had a look at their forum and there doesn't seem to be any support at all. Combining that with the difficulty of installing the script, i'd say it's probably not worth the trouble.
But damn, 700 is just too much, especially when it's only for one url

Hi,
What exactly is the cross referencing the $700 script implements?
Using .htaccess I’ve developed a script that uses category names instead of ID numbers like this mydomain.com/seo-companies/ or mydomain.com/internet/web-design/
As far as *ranking* goes, do you think there is much benefit in URLs that use the category name compared to id numbers?
Thanks

Just thought I would post my experience with the gossamer threads Links 2.0 directory script. I recently tried to install this onto a site, but to no success. The code was buggy, and we kept getting multiple errors with while troubleshooting through SSH. The forums were helpful, but it seems most people had the same problems we did, and eventually just forgot the script. Which is what I am going to do, and use a php solution instead. Add easy installation to that list at the top.

I should have the new script up and running next week. It’s faster and has overcome the excessive resource usage problem in large topic structures. I’m just waiting for my developer to make the appearance changes and incorporate my script modifications.

I do not like the fact the the script generates this much (most of it somewhat useless) data for each listing.

To each his own. If you visit the sites of directory scripts you will see all these in high demmand. Providing a plain directory just does not cut it any more.
