Are these directories even worth my time?

The applications for directory's like DMOZ take quite a bit of time. I'm wondering, if for the average site, is it work it?

Theres hundreds of pages for each sub-sub category. Will anybody even SEE me sites?

You are in it for link popularity, anchor text, and PR. I would not expect too much traffic from directories. I see traffic from DMOZ once in a blue moon.

directories usually do not provide much traffic. they are better known for their effect on search relevancy.

some niche ones are extremely useful and will provide great traffic but most directories do not
