DMOZ is NOt Open, it is BIASED
I expect Google to drop DMOZ in the not to distant future.
It seems DMOZ has been infested with fanatical religious people as of late.
I have had the opportunity to get to know one of their top dogs and boy, what a moron the guy is. I mean for a 57 year old guy with severak degrees the man is a moron. I am going to write a nice articulated article on DMOZ which shall shed light on the jokers in charge over there.

Ooooh! I have a real juicy article I am writing on them. I got one of their TOP dogs to come out of the "closet" and spilled his beans and I will quote all his emails to me.
It will be a scandal when I publish it.
Here is a hint: Money talks! Think PayPal and think $5000 per site

I know a one guy who has paid a meta editor for several submissions, but I think it was more in the area of $100 per URL.

I was wondering about that too, well, 'one-sighted' fanatical religious people maybe.
I had a religious site listed in the correct catagory; religion > ULC and it was suddenly moved a couple of months ago to recreation > drugs > cannabis because (I think) of the only fact that this religion uses cannabis as their sacrament.
I have emailed the editor of the religion section there about this and asked him to correct this again but no reply.
Thing is, it's the same as listing Christian churches in the "alcohol" section because they use wine as a sacrament, a little insulting towards a religion if you ask me.
Who do I have to offer bribes to get this corrected, anyone knows?

The principle behind human editors is good as (in an unbiased world) they can make better judgements regarding sites being entered.
Problem - We don't live in an unbiased world (cyberspace).
When you involve people, you also involve emotions. People becoming editors of categories that are of importance to them and making sure that rivals have a difficult time getting in (if at all).
It also comes down to "it's who you know".
We can't tar all dmoz editors with the same brush just because there are a lot that treat it as a way of earning an income.
If you get in, well done. If not, don't give them another thought.
