Focus on the big directories, and maybe the top few listed in your niche in google. Aside from that, don't waste your time. Objection sir. I work extremely hard on my directory and I take no pleasure in rejecting almost all submissions. They are rejected for one simple reason "You are not up to scratch".
Today I still have PR0 - but serps is Top10, but it hasn't always been so. The directory isn't perfect but gee I don't like someone saying "don't waste your time."
Directories do have HUMANS behind them and the best of them will share their thoughts that they cannot believe how much work is involved in setting up, promoting, and maintaining them.
