Become a dmoz editor for the category you're trying to get into and approve yourself.

I gave up on DMOZ after about a year of nothing happening.

If you're going to go that route then you have to remember that you also have to list the other 85 sites that are waiting to be listed in that category as well, not just your own

Absolutely. And it's really a lot more work than it may seem because you really have to understand dmoz policies to effectively work a topic.

But I still think it's better than waiting a year or more for someone else to approve you then just giving up if it never happens.
