Exclamation Listing Secondary URLs?

I have a question in regards to directory listing.

Let us say you have a simple web site where the structure is.

widgets - home page
widgets/directory/ - directory of widget sites
widgets/articles/ - articles on widgets
widgets/downloads/ - downloads
widgets/blog/ - blog

Would it ever be worth submitting the url to the widget directory?

The reason I ask is I have noticed a couple directories where my main URL would be placed in an "ok" spot but one of my main component directories would be placed in a "great" spot.

Do you submit both or which one?

You can try to SEO anything, just depends on what you want to focus on.

Also some directories only want top-level URLs, some may allow separate submissions of different URLs under a domain into different categories, and some will support multiple links into a domain under a single listing, etcetera...

So the answer depends on individual directory guidelines, what you are focusing on and what the best options are in each directory with respect to your plan.

ok. I just wanted to see if someone thought it was best to do main URL only since people and bots find their way down.

But links into my subs should help a lot right?

Deep links are a wonderful thing.

If I directory expects only the top-level domain just do that, but when you get a chance to get those internal links too...

Which directories allow you to submit inside pages? Does anybody have a list?

I don't have a list handy, but I know that sbd.bcentral.com and octopedia.com do. uncoverthenet.com provides quick links for business listings, I think. And bluefind allows you to submit non-top-level listings, although you'd need to pay more than once to get multiple listings.

site.com/dir/ is better. To the SE's your site will be larger and that is a good thing. Larger sites tend to rank better in some of the SE's.

Actually in my opinion for seo reasons and conversions, its best to deeplink moreso than just the homepage.

I'm trying to help webmasters get deep links by making more specific categories less expensive than top level ones. So at www.jtrotta.com a listing in the sports section is 39.90, in the American football section 29.90, in the American football's NFL section is 19.90 and in the NFL's Giants section 9.90.

James you might want to lax up on the self promo posts IMHO

<example of how your current posts would read if I wrote them using the same style: in MY EBOOK I discuss directories in great depth. and how they help boost your link popularity even if they are deep categories. you may want to buy MY EBOOK, as it helps webmasters save money, etc.>

that doesnt work good for the community when our posts just plug our own stuff

Sorry awall. You are the mod so if you say my posts aren't helping the community I'll try to do better.

I was trying to help the community since I thought we were making a list of directories that allow deep links. And I thought my post was more factual than "you may want to buy..." (I don't know where you got that from and I'm not sure but I guess you meant "example of how MY current posts would read..." - that's what I'm assuming)

Anyway here's some info about a site that's not mine. Hope it helps. www.seoma.net accepts deep links as long as they are submitted to different categories (so each category would have no more than one link going to the same site). If you have 20 pages about SEO this may not help, but if you have one about SEO, one about directories, one about hosting, etc. it is good. And it's cheap.

sorry if I came off as an ass... some of your posts were really insightful, I was just catching up and noticed two or three posts in a row where you mentioned your directory.

generally its better if other people want to plug your stuff for you. the trick is to make real good friends with a few people so you can cross promote in a manner that looks more legit and less self promo

No worries. I guess Mods have to call people out once in a while, but I didn't know that mods were suposed to teach the rest of us how to abuse forums for promoting our own stuff! Nevertheless I appreciate the lesson.
