Yahoo Directory vs Search?

I have a site that I was thinking about adding to Yahoo Directory ($300).

However, it is in Yahoo search and on one nice phrase--#3.

Since the site is in the search, is it even worth the effort adding to the directory?

I know it could add a nice link for SEO reasons but that $300 could buy about 8 directory listings elsewhere.

I've seen sites that were top 5 for the kw's and then they bought a dir listing and they dropped out of the top 1k results. So I would say don't do it unless the dir listing itself is worth risking the placement that you have. Then again, its also possible that it will jump you up to number 1 or something. Its hard to tell, but, Y! is a tricky creature and I wouldn't do it while you still have good rankings.

Ok thanks. Seems like their whole operation is one risk after another.

Guess I should just put the $300 down at the craps table. At least I know there that the worst case scenerio is getting a few beers.

Well, the reason why the Y! directory listing changes things is it will list your site as the dir title, which is usually the official name of the site. The best thing to do with the $300 now is get some more link pop. Y! like google likes a lot of link popularity with anchor text. So spend that $300 on other directories.. not beer.
