We do article submissions because it provides backlinks back to our domain/sub-domains.
However, this method has been abused through automatic submission programs.
If you are going to utilize it to create backlinks, only submit manually to the ones with high PR.

Directory submission is the best off-page technique to get ranking on SERPs. High PageRank directories also helps to increase your PR.

Directory submission ... off-page.

Does it make any sense to any of you?

Well, I'm still doing the directory submission, but I just submit 10-15 per day. Somehow, it gives a little helps in gaining my backlinks. But there's no guarantee that they will approve your submisison.

True, there is no guarantee, but if you read all guidelines thoroughly and aim for smaller numbers and spend more time submitting good information (titles and descriptions - don't make them promotional or spammy) then your chances increase so much, that you can almost guarantee a listing.

Of course, your website itself also needs to be decent. e.g. Sites sitting on a *.info, with a keyword-keword domain, and plastered in adsense are not considered "quality" no matter how well designed they are.

So to recap:
1. Ensure your website has good quality content and is a useful website in its own right
2. Read Guidelines
3. Read Guidelines again
4. Submit useful information (titles and descriptions) along with your website and ensure that information is neither spammy nor promotional.

Sounds easy? It is. But you'd be surprised that so many people get it so very very wrong.

As Dan states it really is that simple, just to add to Dan's point 4, to get a feel for Titling and Describing your site, look at the titles and descriptions for sites already listed in the category, it will probably take around 60 seconds of your time to get a feel for how that directory edits.

I know 60 seconds is a long time in web world but think of it as another 60 seconds you are investing in your site.

A submission of a web site, its address, and description to a directory that allows submission by site owners. In directory submission a website is enlisted with an online directory.

We do directory submission to get one way links for our website which help it to rank in search engine.

Directory Submission gives you a permanent link, but not all the directories are good enough. I would suggest that you stick with the best ones

Hi,

Is directory submission against Google Adsense policies? It sounds like it might be?

My Best,

Frank

Never had a problem with it - I have listings with AdSense ads on them that were submitted and those that were added by the editorial staff. I don't believe there are any issues regarding their policies and directory submission.

This is a great list to start with. Do we know of any others we can add to this, so we can have a running catalog for everyone to work with?

There are other ways to get links, but web directories provide you with content in the search. I would look for human edited directories, and avoid the link farms.
