When to promote?

Hi all,

I have a new directory for a niche. I was wondering how many links I should have before working on getting bots to visit and so forth.

The directory is for a niche and I am working to keep the sites all quality. So far 40 sites have been entered that met my qualifications and I am working to be at 100 in the coming few days.

I was thinking at 100, I would start linking and moving forward.

Thoughts?

No set answer with a niche directory, as the total volume of applicable sites will vary depending upon how popular your niche is.

There wouldn't be a set answer anyway, it just depends on how you want to do it. It's usually never too early for the bots, the sooner you are in the index the better. Laying the trails for bots to visit means that human visitors could too, so you want it to look presentable, but that is a personal judgement call...

Good points, Thermit!

It's never too early. Unless you plan on changing page names and stuff like that.

However, it may be too early to run ad campaigns and do advertising w/ fees.

ok thanks. Looks like my goal of 100 sites will be ok. I mainly want to start with some minor things at that point and build up.

You should start immediately getting bots to your site. It used to be that you wouldn't promote a site until it was ready for prime time, but with Google's sandbox effect, it makes sense to get indexed right away.

Build a foundation before you promote, because now as your promoting you are saying true statements regarding your site theres no one to spam or tell you any different that your site is not in that position.

Trust me im going through that right now ,but when i promote it my site can i back it up.

Not to many of the big sites like me, but thats not why i built my directory. promotion is hard work, and alot of money so do it rt. it took me 8mo to start running my mouth, and people have no choice, but to listen.
