Is Reciprocal linking Helpful?

I was wondering what everyone thought about reciprocal linking, and whats the most successful campaign that you might have had when you started?

If you find a quality relevant website with few external links, then if you exchange link with that, it can help you a little. I suggest you to concentrate on one way link building.

Reciprocal linking fell out of favor a few years ago. Google considers it manipulation of pagerank.

I agree.

If you're a local real estate business, then having a recommended resources page can be very helpful to your clients. If any of those recommended resources have their own website, then I don't see anything wrong with requesting a link back. However, I wouldn't advertise reciprocal linking or link to just anyone. And I would still link to them regardless if they link back or not.

one way linking is the best way. reciprocal links are helpful for driving referral traffic but not good for getting backlinks. even google does not like reciprocal link building.

yes it is helpful because it is one of the most used methods to obtain links to a site to the point that it has lost some of its sheen due to excessive abuse.

When it comes to reciprocal linking, I think the best way to do this is to exchange links with your related site. With this, it is more helpful to increase your quality traffic.

There are still hundreds of blogs and even some major blogs who still do reciprocal linking for both PR and traffic. I think its a good thing as long as you are exchanging links for the reasons of providing value but if you are a real estate blog with links to poker sites then it sends up a red flag.

It can be helpful in two ways.

1. If you have a page of links that send one link to the other site, and they give you a whole bunch of site wide links.

2. If you link to a site that is similar to yours and you use the keyword anchor text that you are looking to rank for it will give you a Serp boost. Outbound links are great ways to get a boost if you use them right.

Its is helpful... if you are aiming for the PageRank.
But as much as possible, make reciprocal links to those related to your site.

And yes, one way links are a lot better.

Generally, its good to go for one way linking by getting quality links and if want to go with reciprocal then, need to careful to exchange links with related sites which also helps in gaining traffic and backlinks to the site.

These are links to another website placed on your site in exchange for links back to your site from theirs. Its used to improve search engine rankings..

How da hell you managed to get green stuff in your Rep. with posts like that one?

Forget about reciprocal links for now and think about what I will tell you.

We are adding links to all sort of sites that have NO BACKLINKS or relation to our site and if you curious enough
to ask me "why are you doing that?" then I will tell you "because it pays to be linked to other sites".

Well, now you get really confused, I tell you why it's good for us to be linked to others.

Lets say for example we placed link to your porn site.
Now, when somebody searches G. for your site using your site anchor text, guess who will come up in SERP?
If you guessed our site, then buy yourself box of chocolates because you're right.

From what I can gather, reciprocal links can be thought of (to an extent) in the same way as any other backlink - if it's from a relevant, good quality site, then go for it. If it's from a seedy online neighbourhood, avoid it.

Unless you like to dabble in more advanced SEO, as it seems fastreplies does ;D

Reciprocal link is looking as a link scheme from Google. It is not that good as it used to be. Reciprocal link may help you if you combined it with another link building strategy. If you are solely rely your ranking on reciprocal linking strategy then you have a high risk. Reciprocal link is identical and easy to be found out by most search engines these days.

Why should you avoid it?
There is nowhere and nothing says: it's bad for you or that crawlers know what to avoid and what to record.
Yes, real people know what is good or bad but as far as SE concerned, it just another link from A to B.

If some "bad neighborhood" put link to your site, is that makes your site bad too?
