That's obvious. I wonder how they see it.

In my opinion, things like DMOZ and Yahoo directories are remnants of the past. Why is there so much prestige associated with them? Does anybody use them? In all honestly, I don't even know how to get to the Yahoo directory from their home page. Do they even have a link to it anymore? As far as DMOZ, what practical use is there for it? Seriously, do you think that as many as 1% of internet users even know it exists, much less use it.

Google collect and analyse a lot of data. They would have tested the effects on the global quality of the search results if they give an extra boost to a link from DMOZ (or yahoo) and if they don't. They will know exactly what the effect is on the global quality of the results. It dosen't matter what you or I think; it dosen't matter what the urban myths of SEO forums are; it dosen't matter if a particular site is listed or not ....Google will trust their testing.

To me it's a self-fulfilling prophecy or a circular argument. If Google believes a site is important, then it becomes important because Google believes it's important. If Google puts your site at #1 in it's search results, you will get a ton of traffic, therefore validating your importance.

“Global quality of the results” Give me a break.

For Google DMOZ is nothing more than marriage of convenience. Why bother build directory from scratch if they have whole army of slaves’ volunteers working for them for nothing.

If Google care about DMOZ index as much as you think, it would have sites listed in DMOZ on top and we would have first 10 pages or more filled with DMOZ links. But Google made conscious decision not to use DMOZ and keep it around as house pet only because they need one around the house anyway.

No one will deny that if Google drop DMOZ it won’t affect it structure or make even minuscule dent in Google’s existence but it sure will make DMOZ completely insignificant and very wretched place.

Do you read replies before you respond? Where did I say that? Why do you consistently make things up?

I will type this bit slowly, so you can understand it:
All I said was that if Google give and extra weight to a DMOZ listed site or not it will be because of their testing of that weight on the search results. It will have nothing to do with what you or I think. Personally, I do not think they do (and I have said that many times).

This thread has been resurrected!!!

I hate a few of the editors that work there, because I caught them putting their scraper sites in the directory, but not my site where they were getting all the content. Talk about frustrating.

As I can see - past tense. Guess that you know how and where to report abusive editing. And - please have in mind that people who proceed with these abuse reports, are great lovers of evidences.

Given that the same people who have abused you in the first place are going to review your complain,
I'll bet you will get your satisfaction (in your dreams)
