Is DMOZ corrupt?
Is it just me or is DMOZ now corrupt?
I have submitted all of my sites to DMOZ, and not one has been accepted. This is over a year and half ago. I heard there are now corrupt editors that are now not accepting competitive websites.
It Seems I could get struck by lightening before I get listed in DMOZ.
What do you think?

Some editors are corrupt, some aren't. They have some fine editors, but also deal with a lot of spam. And they have some editors who are there to keep competing sites out.

DMOZ is a submit-and-forget system.
Submit. If lightning strikes and your submission gets processed, yay, you got a link.
If your submission is never processed -- well, that's what happens to 90+% of DMOZ submissions. Don't let it ruin your day. DMOZ is horribly broken and it will never be fixed.
But, there are lots of other places to get links.

Well, I made my own directory yesterday and already got 173 Links! I guess its my way of giving back to all those rejected by the big guys.

Nice looking directory. As soon as my head stops pounding, I'll submit my site!
Thanks,
Michael

I am an editor myself and my portfolio has been in the system for 3 years awaiting review. We don’t even have to use your public suggestions. Some categories have long waiting lists or your site could actually be crap and rejected.
If its advertisespace.com your on about I would easily keep it in un-reviewed due to lack of content (not rejected).
p.s my own categories in Dmoz however have a tern around of no more than 1 month.

Well, I certainly don't have any experience with DMOZ being corrupt, but I do think they need to manage their volunteers better. IMHO though, it is a bit unfair to say DMOZ is corrupt, blaming an organisation for the actions of a few individual editors is harsh.

I submitted www.v7n.com/scripts
The editor refused to list it saying it didn't have any unique content - but he himself had his own scripts directory listed, along with dozens of his own URLs.
Seemed very odd to me.

Well John as I said some of the editors are unfair in the listing of sites. The one you've mentioned was one of them.

Yeah, I notice he was removed and so are several of his listings.
Awesome avatar, by the way.

I also think DMOS is corrupt, and not corrupt depending on the individual editors. What I do think is that they try to be fear, but I can very well understand that it is difficult to edit such an enormous amount of data. As organisation I think they are just doing their best.

[ironic]Yes, DMoz is very corrupt, all of them are corrupt people.[/ironic]
So now, for few corrupt editors, all DMOZ is corrupt?
You do help...a lot.
Q: Are you using "report abuse/spam" button when you see a corrupt editor?
I`m just asking...not killing anyone..

As a former DMOZ editor I can tell you it is not corruption but rather a lack of caring. If you were not paid, and you had 10,000 submission to review what would you do? And yes, if it directly competes with them, you do not get listed.

I applied to be an editor. That request got rejected too, with some funny explanations! If the number of submissions are huge, they need to induct more volunteers also ..

I think that may be the case in many, but you never know what the other ones are doing. And if the majority doesn't care, I'm assuming it should be easy for someone to be corrupt and get away with it ...

Is there anyone here who has all of their sites listed that still thinks it's corrupt?
