starting a directory
I would like to start my own directory. i am not really sure where to begin with this. I have seen people discuss places where templates and code for a directory can be purchased, but have been unable to find them.
any advice on where i can find this info? also anything i should know before starting a directory.
i am not a program er and do not really understand programing language. the company i work for employs several programmers, however we have decided that it would be more beneficial to try and purchase the script then create it from scratch, as programing resource are currently low.
thanks for the help. i appreacite it.

I'm playing with free php links directory and it is massively easy, but it only has a built in payment integration if you buy the 500 version, which I'm not in the mood to do... I'm working on customizing a payment dealio, but I'm thinking...why waste the time, if I could just buy it that way.

it says there can be lots of complications using PowerSeek with Windows and not a Linux system. are you running your hosting from a Linux system. and if not, have you encountered any problems?

from reading and all it seems like PHP link directory is the easiest to use. I think i am going to go ahead and start using that. I have read lots about people adding Mods to their directories. what are some examples of mod people might be making?

Ok, I haven't installed this sucker, but typically, you will want to:
1. unzip contents into folder you want to put on your server and upload contents to server
2. look for a READ ME file or return to the download page and look for instructions
3. should be an install.php file, I would assume, that will allow you to run it, however, look for that README or other directions in case you have to CMOD anything.

thanks,
i couldn't even find the instructions. i felt dumbfounded. turns out there is an install.txt file that tells you how to install it. are you using Version 2 or 3?
